The Story

All We Once Had is an emotional young adult romance about grief, healing, and the possibility of second chances. The story follows Piper, a teenager still struggling with the loss of her parents after a tragic accident. Living under the guardianship of her strict older sister and dealing with a broken friendship, Piper feels increasingly alone as she approaches her final year of high school. Everything changes when she unexpectedly reunites with Henry—the boy she shared a magical night with three years earlier before he suddenly disappeared from her life. Now back in town for the summer, Henry is facing his own complicated family and relationship struggles. As the two reconnect, they begin to rely on each other while confronting painful memories, difficult choices, and the question of whether their renewed connection could lead to healing—or heartbreak.

Written by Katy Upperman, a contemporary YA novelist known for emotionally driven stories that explore relationships, family challenges, and the complexities of growing up.
