Don’t be alarmed if you happen to see me talking to myself or laughing with no one else in sight. One of my five good friends may be with me. It makes sense if you can’t see them. After all, they’re what are called ghosts – souls filled with curiosity about a life that is unfair to them. My ability to see them is a gift and a curse. This ability brought me a unique friendship with the ghosts of five Dutch children. I spent my days with Peter the jokester, the bickering best friends Hans and Hendrick, William and his gentle violin melodies, and the whimpers of the youngest, Janshen. A life that is far from “normal” is the price I had to pay to be happy with them. And all that changed when our friendship required more in order to be with them forever.
